House of Compassion provides permanent supportive housing for adults living with serious and persistent mental illness. We offer a shared home, three meals daily, 24-hour residential staff presence, daily structure, and a supportive community.
House of Compassion is a non-clinical supportive-housing residence. We do not provide on-site nursing, medical, psychiatric, counselling, PSW/personal-care, or staff-accompaniment services. House of Compassion staff can support residents in following their medication schedules. Medication prescribing, administration, clinical monitoring, and related health-care decisions remain the responsibility of the resident and their external health-care providers.
Applicants must have an active external case manager and/or care team. Referrals must identify the providers responsible for the applicant’s psychiatric care, medical care, medication needs, crisis support, and any required personal-care, addictions, or other specialized services.
House of Compassion may not be appropriate for people who currently require medically monitored residential treatment, on-site clinical or nursing care, hands-on personal care, regular staff accompaniment outside the residence, one-to-one supervision, or active substance-use/addiction supports beyond our capacity.
Each referral is reviewed individually to determine whether the applicant’s needs can be safely met within HOC’s non-clinical supportive-housing model and through confirmed external supports.
Referrals to House of Compassion are made through The Access Point, Toronto’s centralized access point for supportive housing and community mental-health services.
